The Holy Spirit operates in the church as a
definite personality; a Person given to the
church to make clear the continued
ministry of the resurrected Christ.
He imparts the gifts of the spirit through
the life and witness of the church. Romans 12:3-8 describes gifts which seem to be inherent tendencies of individual persons - speaking God's message, serving, teaching, encouraging, sharing, giving encouragement, using authority and showing kindness. These should all be done in God's grace. There are gifts for ministry Ephesians 4:11-12 He appointed some to be apostles, others to be prophets, others to be evangelists others to be pastors and teachers. He did this to prepare all God's people for the work of Christian service, in order to build up the Body of Christ. | is Jesus |

Prayer note: Please pray for the people who have served in East Timor and Afghanistan that they may find there way back into ordinary life with less trauma. Pray for people involved in emergency services - ambulance, fire, rescue, SES - that they will find ways to deal with the trauma they see each day. Pray for the families of those who always bring home the pain of their work. |
A Moment of Faith I wonder, do most of us feel afraid to be Christian and to bear our witness to faith? Do we live lives in places where there is a risk if we do that? Probably many of us would see people in other places as being those who do that - who are told not to fear those who kill the body in response m their being the followers of Christ. Do most of us really remember what it means to walk the way of the cross? And yet, it is often very hard to sit at dinner with friends and to hear them talk in racist ways or unjust ways about other people - it costs us dear sometimes to dare to stand against the stream over dinner. To be a person of faith in societies which are not generally religious is not too easy. Jesus tells us to proclaim our faith from the housetops and, oddly, when we do that the truth is that many people respect us, compared to when we do tricky little things to try to manipulate them into conversations about Jesus. |
