Most people  are  right-handed, so it's easier  for  them to push buttons on the right through  holes  on the  left. That's why men's clothes have buttons on the right. But what about women ? If most of them are right-handed, why are the buttons on their clothes on the left ? The answer goes back in time.
When the first buttons appeared, they  were  very  expensive  and  only the very rich could afford them. At  that  time, rich  women  did  not  dress themselves. They had maids to dress them. Since  a  maid  always  stood  in  front  of  the  woman she was dressing, dressmakers  put  the  buttons  on  the  maid's  right - that  means, on  the woman's left. This kind of maid   has long disappeared, but the buttons on women's clothes have remained on the left.
