Question Gauranga Prema Dasa asked Mukunda Maharaja on December 22, 2001, during an Istaghosti held at Ala-Moana Park on the Island of Oahu in Hawaii:
Gauranga Prema Dasa: Maharaja, as you may recall, at the GBC meeting held in Mayapura in 1999 the following resolution was passed, and I quote:
ISKCON GOVERNING BODY COMMISSION SOCIETY
MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF
THE ISKCON GBC BODY SRI DHAM MAYAPURA,
FEBRUARY 5 -16, 1999
RESOLUTIONS:
504. [VISION AND GOAL] VARNASRAMA DHARMA
AND CARE FOR DEVOTEES
Whereas Srila Prabhupada repeatedly and
consistently advocated the implementation
of Varnasrama as the panacea for all of
societies social imbalances, and
Whereas Srila Prabhupada instructed that
Varnasrama must be implemented within
ISKCON,
It is resolved THAT as a humble beginning of
the process of implementing Daivi-varnasrama
within ISKCON, the GBC Body emphasizes
the need to care for devotees in the
following fundamental areas:
Children
Women
Elderly
Brahmanas
Cows
And as you may also recall, Lokanatha Swami was appointed at that time to head up this project. I was just wondering if you could kindly update us on what, if any, progress has been made.
Mukunda Maharaja: "If any." Key words. Very intelligently put. Actually nothing has been done. [Laughter] Practically the GBC has become irrelevant to many people in today's ISKCON. So many people are now living outside of our communities. Especially amongst those who are under 30. You know they have that saying, "Never trust anyone under thirty." I fit into that category, and I'm also no longer on the GBC. I resigned quite some time ago actually. Anyways, I'm sure they've done something.
Mukunda Maharaja is currently still one of the most respected leaders in ISKCON, and also resides at the headquarters of ISKCON in the West, located in Los Angeles, California. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
Have I committed any offenses,
taken any quotes out of context,
made any mistakes, and/or
done anything I shouldn't have?
If so, I'm sorry.
Aspiring to be the sincere
servant of the servant,
Yours Truly,
