And a Cold Armadillo ... About Katy
Katy's Webpage

Hey. My name is Katy Nelson-Penland. If you haven't been able to tell, I collect Piglet. Classic, preferably. That means he's green, not pink, dangit.

I live in Western Washington, in a suburb south of Tacoma and Seattle called Spanaway.

I am fifteen years old. My birthday is May 4th 1984..birthday emails are welcome at my email address which you will find at the bottom of the page. I am a 'musician' when I was little I realized I could sing pretty well...so I have developed that talent into quite the voice. Also in my family ALL of the kids were in band. I am the youngest so I had to also. I played the clarinet and last year moved to playing the bass clarinet. I sing Mezz-Soprano in Tahoma Girls Choir. TGC is a prestigious and very very good choir. We rehearse one day after school. I am in the top group 'Cantabile' so we practice on Mondays. I will try and keep an updated 'concerts' link on this page with info on my upcoming preformances from the different things I do! I will be a 10th grader next year, so I will start school at Spanaway Lake High School and will sing alto in the sophmore girls choir. But the most exciting, and most important news, I got my acceptance letter into Spanaway Lake High School's Music Company. This is the REALLY REALLY good jazz choir at the high school I am going to attend next year. 22 girls auditioned for only 8 spots, and I even was up against high school girls for the spot I got. This is like the best thing that has EVER happened to me. I am so incredibly happy. My sister auditioned and made it when she was a ninth grader, and was in MC, all through high school, and ever since she started with them, I wanted to do this. One more thing though. My bestest friend in the entire world ALSO made it, as a First Soprano...I am SO ECSTATIC RIGHT NOW!! YEAH KATY!!! Okay I have had my time of glory, back to OTHER things about me!!

Like I previously mentioned I am going into the tenth grade. Wow..high school. Anyway the high school I will be going to is 'Spanaway Lake High School' (I will get a link soon!!) For ninth grade I went to Spanaway Junior High, but for 7th and 8th I attended Frontier Junior High which is what I consider my home, and the source of my vocal accomplishments because the choir teacher at FJH my 7th and 8th grade years was Mr. Guenther, an AWESOME choir teacher. He really taught me a lot and helped me.

Some of the academic things I've done include making the select ensemble from our school for the SPSL Solo-Ensemble contest for choir three years in a row, in fact this year I did a solo, and recieved a 1++; making first in regionals and third place in state for Odyssey of the Mind; making state for Future Problem Solving (a schtoopid, schtoopid SCHTOOPID thing that the FJH Honors teacher forced us all into); earning the part of the Robin in the all-school play of The Secret Garden; winning Best Costume in my SJH Honors Class for my presentation and costume on the book "The Hobbit" by J. R. R. Tolkien; successfully leading my team, the yellow team, to win the archeology simulation unit in Honors at SJH; and being given a solo at SJH's winter choir concert. Yay for me!

My family consists of the following people. My father, Dan Penland, owns his own auto parts business, Geon of Tacoma (in Tacoma). My mother is the principal's secretary at SJH. My brother is 21 years old, a recent father (pictures of my nephew, Ethan, coming soon!) as of early December. He's a part-time mobile DJ and is getting married in August to a wonderful person named Amanda, who is the mother of his child. My sister, evil one Stephanie (feel the love), is a freshman at University of Southern California. She also sings alto (as does my mom) and plays the oboe. And Schtuff. My nephew, Ethan, is 71/2 months as of the update of this page on July 27th. He is the most beautiful baby in the entire world. He has blue eyes, and we are thankful that his ears don't stick out like the rest of us. (Time will tell.)

So there you go. (Hey, Katy, you forgot about your typist.) Oh. Okay. I'll talk about my best friends now. No. I'll do a page for you. (All right. I guess I'll be satisfied with that.)

So there you go. Me in a nutshell. It's the scariest thing in the world, I know. Thanks for reading!
