Christmas Carols
Some say that ever 'gainst that season comes,
Wherein our Savior's birth is celebrated,
The bird of dawning singeth all night long;
And then, they say, no spirit
dare stir abroad;
The nights are wholesome;
then no planets strike,
No fairy takes, nor witch hath
power to charm,
So hallow'd and so gracious is that time.
--William Shakespeare: Hamlet, I.i./i>
I have been working on collection Christmas songs for a couple of years (on and off, of course); mainly out of an interest in folk music. After each song will be found a letter: L for Latin, F for French, E for English, W for Welsh, G for German, A for American (these are generally pop songs), S for Scottish, for the songs whose origin I know.
