Sextet II

untitled 1

how in a moment
a thing is so familiar
in the next so strange

balance

balance is crucial
birds with just one working wing
neither fly nor swim

some comfort 2

when we were children
we were free to sample whatever we found
with our mouths
we would lick
we would suck
we would savor any object
that might provide comfort

so much of what we do as adults
is motivated by an almost involuntary desire
to recapture what we felt
when we first discovered our thumbs

more comfort

people come to me
in search of reassurance
all they need is love

finger painting

inside you
my finger painting
you're so sweet and red
like the hard candy stripes on my back

i love you
my finger painting
when you're red

winning streak

what a winning streak we the living daily extend at death's expense
