Karystos
Karystos is a lively town with well-laid out streets,
squares and public neoclassical buildings. You could visit the Castello
Rosso (Red Castle), the Fort
Bourtzi, the
Archeological Museum, the Library, the Folklore Collection, the Roman temple of
Apollo in the centre, the gorge of
Dimosari, the Dragon House on
mount Ohi. The parks, the jetty and the roads that wind along the
coastline are very beautiful to walk along, ideal for resting, relaxing,
romantic and personal moments. In the traditional cafes on the sea front you can
enjoy the spirit of ouzo, the breeze and the sea stories of the fishermen under
the mulberry trees and the drying octopus. The food that is served in the
taverns and restaurants of the town is good authentic Greek food, fresh fish
(the catch of the day), fresh meat, home-grown vegetables and local wine.
