I came across this announcement at a BBS I was looking around today. I think it's definitely a cause that we should do something about. Imagine having your heritage taken away from you! Many people have experienced this, or at least read about it happening, or head of it through family history, but this is happening TODAY and we can do something about it! Friends and I have a joint meditation monthly on the first Sunday after the full moon, consistently at 10pm EST. We will be continuing to send energy to the women in Afghanistan during these meditations, and continuing to help raise attention on the issue. I hope you'll join us on these days and continue in your own way to help out where you can. Personally I will be adding the people of the First Nations to my meditations and doing my best to raise awareness of this issue. Please assist in however way you can, even if it's simply sending energy their way :-) Blessed be, LaughingKoala |

URGENT MESSAGE!!!! Please read, act, then pass this on to as many people as possible. All First People across this nation have undergone many hardships for many years. They have been denied the right to speak their native language, practice their spirituality, undergone police brutality, been demeaned and shoved into last place too many times. Never has a treaty by the US Government been totally honored. Even respect for the remains of the dead are foregone as malls & highways (like proposed moving of Hwy. 55 in MN) pave over burial sites and mines dig up Native American/American Indian remains. Some times bones are just left, like garbage. There are many sites listed below that can give you detailed information & history on many issues. Please check them out, but be prepared, you may be shocked at what you read - like living conditions comparable to 3rd world countries, suicide rates far surpassing the rest of the nation or average incomes impossible to support a family. |

While all injustices must be stopped, there is an especially urgent issue regarding First People in northeastern AZ right now. Navajo (Dine'h) Elders & families on the Navajo Reservation, at Black Mesa/Big Mountain, are resisting further encroachment onto their sacred land by Peabody Coal. Peabody (from England) has been stripping the Navajo's land for years. As the last resistors have found wells capped, been threatened by notices of unwanted relocation, eviction & confiscation of their source of income, their livestock, they desperately need your help to keep their homes, their ancient lands and to survive. In this particular case, this genocidal process, this gradual elimination of an indigenous people began almost 30 yrs. ago, but few Americans knew.(It has actually been occurring for many hundreds of years) Few know of the extent of water contamination from the uranium mines when waste was dumped. Now they must know & it must stop. We, as country are committing the very violations of human rights of our own citizens, that we supposedly fight against. In March elders elders will be speaking @ The Human Rights Conference Sessions in Geneva, Switzerland re: UN investigation into US violations of human rights. Additionally, our government has allowed the creation of a situation that has pitted tribe against tribe, seemingly leaving their own hands clean. Among other things, tradition, spirituality, respect for the dead & care for Mother Earth & her inhabitants, have taken a backseat to GREED. We visited Red Willow Springs Sacred Site, a peaceful canyon where sheep drink from underground spring water that twirls trough the bottom & pectroglyphs adorn the walls - where the ancient spirits used to speak to the people when they prayed there. But they speak no more. Not since the earth & rock shifted from nearby bulldozing 15 years ago. The spirits are silent now. I don't know what we'd do if the governmant told us we had to reduce our income by 80%, move 20-100 miles away because there was coal under our house, and then took our 3 dogs.
