Besty and Big Dave:
Winners at Mandurah 2009
In
another of the amazing twists to this great tournament, Besty
– two time winner and defending champion, defied the odds to go “back to back”
with his win in this years EPOB Australia Day Golf Classic. Partnered with Dave
“m&m’s” Gerrans, the
pair shot a three over the card 73 to win on a count back from the fast fading
pair of Hawkeye and Westy, who had been three stokes
up with two holes to play. There was plenty of discussion about the count back
rule, but after much consultation the winners were declared. To quote from the
rules as clarified in 2005 (http://www.geocities.com/epob_1999/formguide05.html)
“Winner
is the lowest score after 18 holes. In the case of a tie we will count back in
order from the 18th hole to find the lowest sore on a hole. (If that doesn't
sort it then there will be an ugly dick competition, winner
take all - I hope Cheese doesn't tie for first!)”

Special
thanks to all our sponsors for prizes on the day. Given the tough economic
times there were certainly plenty of goodies to go around.
Trev Malcolm at Transpacific, Westy at Rural
Timber Floors, Blakes at Bunbury Toyota, Bainy at Kings Park Settlements, Cheese at TK West, Gav at Aspen, Crossy – “Why not!”
If I forgot anyone please let me know.
A special thanks must also go to Westy for
organizing the aftermatch at Dolphin Keys, which was
well patronized by all players and by wives/girlfriends and kids – a good day
was had by all! Well done Westy. Thanks also to those
who put up a few for the weekend and for their hospitality– The Delbos, Marius and Shelly, Kev, Trev.
Next
year is up for grabs, I know Gav Howlett
wants us to go back down to Dunsborough – so he can drink more before he has to
go home. (For all those who didn’t hear we got a late text from his chauffeur
for the trip home, Blakes, which read “all I heard
was “fucking crossy”, then he went to sleep and woke
up 10mins from home. Good trip!”). There is still some debate to be had as the
call has also been made to return to
Another
discussion to be had is the pairings system, as again the method this year
caused some grief as we had a couple of late withdrawals – so if you have a
good/fair/transparent method then let me know. We may revert back to on the tee
as per Bunbury, but with an agreed A/B/C ranking?
Anyway another year done.
Cheers
Wrighty
