The Aircraft Homebuilders of South Africa
are proud to announce the First Light Aircraft Design Competition (1997)
In a bold move to promote aircraft homebuilding in South Africa, the Executive committee initiated this competition to identify feasible light aircraft designs which could be developed for the South African aircraft homebuilding market. The reward?
The Grand Prize for the Number One design is a 56 Kw (74 Hp), ADA (Pty) Ltd 1700 Engine Conversion, complete with reduction gearbox and starter.
Can you afford NOT to enter?
The first South African designed aircraft flew in in 1911 in Kimberley and since then, sport aviation has come a long way in our country.
We have favourable legislation that allow relative freedom for the homebuilder to design and build their own aircraft. But, because of the recent decline in exchange rates, many potential homebuilders have been excluded from our sport because of the high costs involved in importing the relevant materials.
What type of aircraft? What next?
Enter! On receipt of your entry form and fee, your entry will be registered and from 1 July 1997, your serialized Competition Information Package will be posted to you by registered mail. The Competition Information Package contains all the rules and regulations of the competition, the requirements you have to design to, as well as the design equations you must use in the project! As this is a concept design competition only, you will only be required to do a performance prediction and aerodynamic analysis of the aircraft, while structures and construction techniques need only be described.
