Spanish Silver |

The Spanish did not always make perfectly shaped bars. Some looked like fingers, others elongated, while other bars were square, or even just hunks of metal. The silver above came from an old mine that had been covered by the Ute Indians at one time. Even when a mine is covered up, it will eventually uncover itself to the point where it can be detected. So it was with the mine that contained these silver pieces. By raking his fingers through the floor of the old mine, the finder was suprised to find these specimens only a few inches under loose dirt at the entrance. Further exploration revealed two more square bars at a later date. The mine is well hidden, and can be found only by knowing the area that it is in. This mine has been searched for by several treasure hunters, but eluded them. In fact, most of them probably walked right by it and never knew it. Such as it is with most of us. |
