Sacrifice Circuit Racing

There are a few pictures here - time to grab another beer while they looad!
           Life before Sacrifice

I was always destined to have a love of boats because as soon as I could walk I was "deck hand" on my fathers 28'6" Chriscraft boat which he used to operate from Nelson Bay, Port Stephens in the early 1950's.
He used to charge passengers 2 shillings for a 10 minute ride around the bay - remember these were the days when hardly anybody had boats.
It was powered by a "Chrysler straight 8"  I must have been a big help in those days!

I had a bit of a stint with motor bikes in the early 70's and built a "chopper" out of a 42 WLA Harley

My first boat was a centre mount ski boat called "Miss Yvonne" powered by a Pontiac. We had years of enjoyment with this boat teaching the kids [and eveyone else] to ski  and camping from the mid 70's to the early 80's.
I remember sitting around the campfire one night at Mungo Brush, [a beer in one hand ] making a head gasket for it so we could ski the next day.

The next boat was an 18' Eliminator jet boat with a 454 Chev in it called Buckshot.   [Mungo Brush] __
This got along extreemly well and was a great "pose machine" as well as a good ski boat [although a bit heavy on the fuel].

In 1990 a mate took me as passenger in a race at Mungo in his boat Rawhide

and then I had a couple of drives in handicap races.  These were the days when all you needed to go racing was a boat, jacket & helmet and a normal licence.
[Mungo ~ Boxing Day 1990] Rawhide is a 16' early Everingham powered by a 289 Ford Windsor and used to be a force to contend with in it's day. It is still going strong today as a ski boat.

From here on I was hooked on powerboat racing. I rebuilt the 289 and raced it for a short while and then bought my first race boat.

This was a 17' Whitely with a 302 Ford Cleveland called Poke.
As soon as it was in my yard I pulled the 454 out of Buckshot and put it in Poke.

I raced this [& skied] for 18 months before buying Sacrifice.

________

While all this racing was going on, Buckshot was sitting idle with no motor. During the 90's I removed the jet unit, put in a V-Drive, gave it a coat of paint [black of course] and when I built the new motor for Sacrifice I had a "good" 454 ski motor left over for Buckshot.  _________
