Hi, I'm Larry Rae and I live at Woodville in the Hunter Valley [15mins from Raymond Terrace & 2 hrs north of Sydney]. I am a member of Raymond Terace Aquatic Club and Port Stephens Regatta Club [both powerboat racing clubs].
I bought Sacrifice in 1992, second hand with no motor, it was 2 years old & previously raced with a 6 lt Chev pushing it along.
It is an 18’ 6” “Bruce Everingham Shallow V” made in Moree with an Argo V Drive.
I had a Big Block 454 Chev from a previous boat [see before] so I set the boat up to take this engine. It started off pretty mild with a Crane cam & a Holley 780, TRW 12:1 pistons & everything else just about stock, running on Avgas.
An early, single carby Sacrifice   [Myall Lakes]
I mainly concentrated on club racing at Raymond Terrace in the early days and the occasional Spectacular at Mungo Brush, Toukley and Toronto.
My first trophies~1993
In 1993 I put a pair of Holley 660 centre squirters on a polished tunnel ram and installed a "bigger"Crane cam which gave me a fair bit more power. [I still use this cam today] See MOTOR for the latest engine.
I ran this combination up until 1998, with different modifications here and there over the years.
In 1995  I was timed through the "Kilos" at 93 mph [149 kph] with 42% step-up in the gearbox using a Stelling 14"pitch prop.
In 1997  I changed to a Menkins 16" pitch  prop and 23% gearing to get more revs and I was doing about 102 mph at 6500rpm. It is the combination of acceleration and top end speed that wins races.
