Siskiyou County.
Rising out of the heart of the county is the ever magnificent Mount Shasta (elev. 14,162 feet [to hell with the "metric system"]), which was discovered on Valentines Day of 1827 by famed mountain man Peter Skene Ogden. She is the second higest volcano in the Cascade Mountain Range, and the largest in overall mass. 30 miles to the north west lies the Siskiyou county seat of Yreka (no, I know it's not Eureka, so GET OFF MY BACK!!!), the largest town in the county, with a population (of the "metro" area) of <10,000 people. 10 miles to the south west of Yreka is Scott Valley, which you will hear a hell of a lot about. In the east end of the county are the communities of Tule Lake, Tennant, Macdoel, Dorris (home of the nations tallest flag pole [sorry Fort Jones]), and here lies the Lava Beds National Monument, where, in part, the largest of the Indian wars, the Modoc War, took place (well, between here and Tule Lake). West county houses the Salmon River communities, including Forks of Salmon (with the smallest post office in the nation), Sawyers Bar, Cecilville, and Somes Bar, and Klamath River communities, including Happy Camp, Seiad Valley, Horse Creek, Klamath River, Hamburg, Scott Bar (actually on the Scott River, but I felt like putting it in here so it's not all alone here), and a few others.
