We were always fond of old VW Bugs. One day we spotted a 1967 convertible bug for sale that was affordable and an added plus…it ran! We wanted to be able to go off-road when the dunes at Silver Lake, MI were too crowded, so we purchased "Bugly." For several years we ran it off-road and on little trips with our two children. But our dream was to build it into a real off-road machine…a Baja "Bugly." So after our rail was finished, we set out to build Baja "Bugly." Plus, I wanted a vehicle that could handle those bumps and ruts that the dunes are famous for and still go fast! Well, I think we have built the perfect vehicle to handle it all… "Bugly." See pictures of "Bugly"…the early years!
This spring we will have "Bugly" complete and I’ll be posting some new pictures to show you. The paint we will be using is very unique; it turns six different colors depending on the light. The buggy is being built by our friend, Dan Baudoux of "Dan's Off Road" and Larry Woods is doing all of the body work and paint. Larry's friend, Gerald Kamyszek is also lending his talents to this project. Now Dave has completed the engine work. We went to the Swap Meet and Show in Lansing, MI on February 28, 1999 and won an award for "Best Engineered." We are very proud of that award and thank everyone who has helped put Bugly together. Since the show, we had a convertible top made and are completing the wiring. Soon it will be ready for the dunes at Silver Lake, MI. They open on April 1, 1999!
