Josh & Kerrie's Dune Buggy Project

I was looking for a cheap convertible to replace my motor bike as my summer toy of choice  (cheap, however, I have no body experience)  I was concentrating mostly on MGs and Ghia's.  I got lost one day and found a buggy for sale.  Looked at it for kicks, but honestly thought it looked corny.  Later on (2-3 months later), I was talking to a guy who restores VW's of all types outside of Toledo about a Ghia he had.

I mentioned the buggy and the price ($800).  The next day I woke up and realized the glimmer in his eyes when I told him the price.  I stewed on it for a while and started looking on the web...the more I looked, the more I wanted.  I grew up on dirt bikes and 4x4's, so these things started to look real appealing.

Anyway, one morning on a whim I got myself lost again to try to find this house to see if the buggy was still around.  It took all morning, but finally I recognized the house.  He had basically given up...it was no longer near the road and was back somewhat  hidden by his  garage.

After visiting again with an auto technician buddy, I negotiated $550 including delivery.
Mechanically, all it needed was a gas line.  I have replaced the gas line and bought some high backed black seats.  And my first piece of chrome (air filter housing).  My short term goal is to get it looking good (as opposed to great) by spring so I can play with it.
