Josh & Kerrie's Dune Buggy Project

With the body off, work on the chassis has begun. You will get a kick out of knowing that I removed what had appeared to be a rubber mat/floor over the front portion of the floor.

Actually, it was shingles turned upside down!
It did do a wonderful job of protecting the floor, as there is even some original paint not rusted
under it.

Unfortunately, its not so easy to remove as the wire brush tends to bake it on, I have resorted to hammer and chisel!

Take a look a the engine after a little hard work.
Makes a big difference. The pic on the left is how it looked when I got it. The right is now.

I started putting things back together on my engine today before work and installed my
alternator.  It hurts when I need to remove something that's original German  VW parts.
In this case it was the generator stand.  Now if I can find a gasket, I can keep my stock oil cap.
...ahh for life's simple pleasures.

Great progress on the buggy here.  I applied some "Rust Destroyer" to the pans yesterday.  The rot was minimal, so I settled for aluminum tape over the holes since I'll have carpet anyway.  Looking good!

Here is a look at the aluminum slots and tires that will go on the buggy when she is all back together.

Stay tuned for more
