PRIMETIME October 09, 1998 ...
Bruce Thomas: Now this show is about IWA wrestlers joining Wrestling feds suchs as NWA south, ICW and USWF. This week we have Patrick Patterson, IWA manager and know as Scott Patric. Please check back tomorrow for the NWA part of this interview.
Bruce Thomas: Where did you hear about the IWA?
Patrick Patterson: I was a big reader of Pro Wrestling Illustated back in high
school and saw the ads all the time. Towards the end of my senior year,
they introduced the scrubs you could take on to enter it, (Big Ben,
Jaeger Van Dorn, etc.). I sent it in, and three weeks later history was
made.
Bruce Thomas: Was CGT your First stable? What made you come up with the name?
Patrick Patterson: Yes. I brought my lifelong best friend Tom Cote' into the
game after my third cycle, and we decided to start our own stable since
we were too new to try to gain entry into any decent one. LOL, the
original name was kind of an inside joke that I won't go into now, but
when we wanted to change the name about a year later, our good friend
The Wizard came up with Collaboration Of Great Talent.
Bruce Thomas: Being IWA's first 501 world champion what do you have to say?
Patrick Patterson: Well, I was in shock at the time, especially since I had
only been in the game for 11 months. It had only been about two months
since the first 501 PERIOD had been scored, (it won National). The
Wizard called me up with Iron holds and I tallied them up. I thought I
made a mistake the first time, and for that matter, the second and third
times as well. Me and Tom both scored 501's. I took league and he took
TV, which took us to World and US. Since then, we've each had two other
501 strats, which given the small number of wrestlers we each own
personally, is quite an accomplishment. Most people have to create
dozens of wrestlers and have claim to just one or two.
Bruce Thomas: What was your first IWA league?
Patrick Patterson: The Light Weight League. A small but great league that, in
a way, still lives on today. Many of the DAL wrestlers, (Scott Cobain,
Fred Rogers, Pok the Precious, SuperSven, Blade, Chris Adams &
Thrillseeker, etc. were all big time names in the LWL at some point. We
made some of our greatest allies,(and in many cases, stablemates) there,
I won my first league title and first IWA major from there, started CGT
there, etc. I will never forget it, and if the IWA ever opens another
LWL, we will attack it.
Bruce Thomas: Do you think the IWA should have a thing in their report annoucing
the Commish of the month?
Patrick Patterson: I could see that being a good thing, but I don't see it
being a good thing. Several commish's would probably get upset by not
being listed and quit. The IWA needs MORE people to be consistent
commish's, not less.
Bruce Thomas: If you wanted to make CGT a dream team who would you add to the
stable?
Patrick Patterson: Hmmmmmmm......good one. CGT is very picky. There are some
people we have considered attempting to bring in before, such as Eric
Tackett, Pat Brooks, Jason Rosol, Billy Tucker, etc. And there are some
we have actually invited and did not get, such as WP Mills and Charlie
Claggit. Perhaps someday, some or all of these people could be with us.
Bruce Thomas: Who is your best friend in the game?
Patrick Patterson: I consider myself close to all of CGT, and have several
close friends, but Tom Cote' has been my best bud since we were 9 years
old, and that doesn't change.
Bruce Thomas: Do you think the IWA can use change?
Patrick Patterson: Everything can use change. I think the IWA should hold IWA-wide
contests that aren't decided by luck. Almost every contest since I've
been in the game is a pure luck thing, that's why I don't enter them.
I'd rather try to win another World or something.
Bruce Thomas: Don't you ever get bored of typing 4 pages of the DAL?
Patrick Patterson: Heck no. There is always something to talk about in the
DAL. In fact, I usually have to leave out some stuff to fit it all.
Bruce Thomas: What title would you love to win next in your IWA career?
Patrick Patterson: I've already won World in both the male and female leagues, but I've never done more than draw for World Tag or Six Man. I'd love to take those.
