NTTDS Special Events
Second Saturdays (Mar 14, NOT April 11, May 9)Contra Dance at Senter EAST
Building, 228 Chamberlain Street, Irving.
Directions:
From Loop 12, take the Shady Grove exit and go West approx 1.4 miles
to the third traffic light, at Senter Rd.
Turn right on Senter, go 2 long blocks to Senter Valley
(intersects from the right only).
Turn right on Senter Valley, go one block, and turn right on Chamberlain.
The road into the Senter East Building parking lot
is on your right after you go past just a few houses.
Look for the brown wood sign on the right.
The building is tucked in a residential area, so is easy to miss.
On Chamberlain, if you reach another street (Delaware),
you've passed it.
One reason for this dance is to grow new musicians and callers.
Neither will be paid, but will gain real-world experience.

THURS April 23: Scandinavian Dance Workshop, 7:30 - 10 pm,
First United Lutheran Church, 6202 Mockingbird Lane,
about 8 blocks east of Central Expressway, between Skillman and Abrams,
on the South side of the street.
The featured band for When In Doubt Swing,
The Moving Violations
is coming early to play for this workshop. This is open to everyone,
not just WIDS attendees.

If NOT already registered, Thursday evening only: $10
If NOT already registered, Thursday evening and WIDS Saturday 9:30 - Noon: $20
April 24-26: When In Doubt, Swing! contra dance weekend here in Dallas. The band is Moving Violations: Van Kaynor (Fiddle), Becky Ashenden (Piano), Ron Grosslein (Fiddle, Mandolin), Chuck Corman (Bass, Guitar, Percussion). The caller is Lynn Ackerson.
Sunday May 17: JeanE McIntosh is celebrating the completion of her MFA degree
by having a party at her house, 4738 Sugar Mill Rd, Dallas: swimming, pot luck, music jam,
and probably some dancing.
This will replace Lois's "slow jam" for May, so musicians
please bring your instruments. Time: approx 2 pm to 9 or 10 pm, with pot luck at 3 pm.

Saturday May 30, 2-5 pm: Special afternoon contra dance at Sons of Hermann Hall, 3414 Elm Street (at Exposition, near Fair Park), featuring the Lost and Nameless Orchestra from Austin. NOTE: No parking in the lot directly across the street. Park in the Baylor lot across Exposition and the railroad tracks.
Saturday May 30, 8-11 pm: Because of hall availability, our normal third Saturday evening contra dance will NOT be at the Plaza. We're still trying to find a different location. Stay Tuned...
June 26-28: Tunes for 20!
contra dance weekend at Lake Texoma, celebrating 20 years Mimi and Allison
providing their wonderful contra dance music. Barb Smith from Houston will call,
and the music will be provided by Mimi Rogers, Allison Hicks, Albert Alfonso, Steve Horn,
and Mimi's brother Greg Rogers. For all the details, see the

PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED, MAXIMUM OF 100 PEOPLE.

Contra dances are held on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Saturdays of every
month, 8-11 pm,
at the Plaza Arts Center, 1115 4th Ave, Carrollton, TX 75006
(Mapsco 12 C, near the intersection of Interstate 35 and Belt Line Road).

Admission is $6 for members, $8 for non-members,
and $4 for children 12 and under and students with ID
(worth it just for the music).
The hall has a wonderful soft sprung wood floor, and the dances use live music.
Beginners are encouraged (but not required) to come to
a brief introductory lesson at 7:45 pm.
English Country dances are held on the 4th Saturday of every month,
8-11 pm,
at the Quaker Friends Meeting House, 5828 Worth St, Dallas, TX (Mapsco 36 Y).

There is no fixed admission charge, but a donation is requested.
