The Chicory House, a non-profit organization run entirely by a dedicated staff
of volunteers, was
conceived in 1986 by a group of Wyoming Valley residents who wanted to provide
the area with venue for
acoustic music ranging from blues, folk, Cajun, Celtic, swing, jazz, bluegrass
and gospel. Housed in the
community center of St. Stephen's Church in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, the
coffeehouse-style concerts
provide a smoke-free, alcohol-free alternative to the bar scene and feature
the outstanding talent of
national and international touring artists.
This is the Chicory House's first effort at producing a recording to capture
some of the memorable talents
who've drawn enthusiastic audiences at our Friday night concerts. Whether you
lie back and enjoy the
sultry jazz of Kick at Heaven on "You and You and You" or get up and dance to
Whirligig's "Tolka
Polka," we hope the music brings back memories of wonderful concerts at the
Chicory House. We're
especially grateful to the artists who have generously donated selections from
their concerts in support of
our effort, to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church for providing its community
room to The Chicory House for
the past nine years, and to our warm, wonderful audiences who never fail give
hearty, appreciative
support to the performers and to The Chicory House.
