Yes, you guessed it, my vampire of choice is none other than Louis de Pointe du Lac. Why do I like this so-called "whiner"? Read on.

Anne Rice truly created a fascinating character. Louis is angst-ridden, guilt -ridden, vulnerable-a vampire with a human soul. Not just a blood drinking "monster" but a beautifully written character I could sympathasize with. On one level, Louis is the quiet, poetic, intellectual vampire. But he can also take action when he needs to. After all, he did burn the Theatre des Vampires to get revenge for Claudia's death.

As far as his reputation as a whiner, I think it started with the line "Ah, Lous, Louis, still whining Louis," in IWTV the movie. I never thought of Louis as a whiner. Tortured, depressed, yes, but never a whiner. People who call Louis a "whiner" seem to be forgetting that Lestat also whined his way through Tale of the Body Theif and Memnoch the Devil.

That's not too say that Louis is the only Vampire Chronicles character that I like. I also like Lestat, Marius, Daniel, and Armand, as well as Claudia, Gabrielle, and Jesse. But Louis will always be my favorite. Ok, I have a thing for black haired, green eyed, angst-ridden guys. .

Unfortunately, Anne Rice decided to not write about Louis anymore, and anytime he does make an appearence he says a few comforting words, looks pretty, and is out of the picture in a few paragraphs. However, devoted Louisians out there continue to create great pages devoted the "Beautiful One."
