Experiment of the Month

Each month or so (depending on when I get around to it) I will put here a new experiment or challenge for you to do and explain to me.

Here is this month's challenge:

I think last "month's" challenge must have been a little bit hard. No one replied! So this one is a bit easier. Even if you don't know the answer, or think you have a bit of an idea, B-mail me, because I would like to hear of even your attempts.

An oldy, but a goody. This is from one of Professor Julius Summner Miller's Cadbury Chocolate commercials.

The Challenge

Lift the Ice.

What to do

Lift an ice cube from a drink with a piece of string without tying a knot or touching the cube or drink.

How on earth do you do that?

I won't tell you that, that's why it's a challenge. However, you can use any item that would normally appear on a kitchen table, so long as you don't use them to lift the ice cube. (It must be the string that does the lifting.)

If you can do it, or you have pulled all your hair out trying to figure it out, B-mail me and I can tell you if you're right, or help you out. I will put the solution up in a month or so (or maybe closer to a year if no-one responds), and have another challenge for you to try.
