Kamov Ka-50 'Hokum'

A unique design, the Kamov Ka-50 code-named 'Hokum' is the first single-seat close support helicopter. Another designation, V-80 has been reported. First flown in July 1982 the 'Hokum' is very fast and agile and its targets are designated by surveillance aircraft. The undercarriage is retractable and the cockpit armoured. A 30mm cannon is mounted on the starboard fuselage side and up to 16 laser-guided tube-launched missiles or 80 air-to-air rockets can be carried. 'Hokum' has a maximum speed in a shallow dive of 350km/h and the type is in production.

Mil Mi-24 'Hind'

A heavily armed assualt and gunship helicopter, the Mi-24, code-named 'Hind', is in service in very large numbers. 'Hind A' carries eight troops and has stud-wing-mounted missiles and a nose gun, while 'Hind D' has separate cockpits for pilot and weapon operator and a four-barrel machine gun in a chin mounting. 'Hind C' has no nose gun or under sighting system. Mi-24W 'Hind E' carries tube-launched anti-tank missiles. Mi-24P 'Hind F' has twin gun side pack and no nose turret, and Mi-24R 'Hind G' is used for radiation sampling. Early 'Hinds' had tail rotor on the starboard side, while later versions have it to port. Export versions are Mi-25 and Mi-35.
