Betsy was our first pound puppy. We adopted her when she was just
two months old. There was a sign on her cage that read "I'm
a little load, but with some good training I could be a good
pet". She was extremely quiet, until we brought her home. On
the way home from the Humane Society she chewed through her leash
and bolted when the car door was opened. The next day I left her
alone for two hours while I bought a training crate. When I
returned she had chewed out of her box and started to chew
through the floor in our utility room. She has also broken
several aircraft cables, and chain collars. Luckily she loves to
ride in the car, so each time she escaped we were able to
recapture her by simply hopping in the car. She mellowed out alot
after she reached 1.5 years. Now she spends most of her day
sleeping, but is always willing to play a game of fetch.
We adopted Samantha when she was six or seven months old. We
wanted Betsy to have another dog to play with. When we first
visited Samantha at the Humane Society she wouldn't even play,
but would just grab your leg and not let go. She was pretty
love-starved, and someone had cut off the majority of her tail.
Samantha appears in TV commercials for the Tippecanoe County
Humane Society. She is a real people dog. She still gets excited
when I come home to greet her.
