Microcontrollers
- A microcontroller is a self contained chip with CPU, ROM/EPROM/EEPROM/FLASH, RAM, and peripherals in a single device. They are used for such things as VCRs, printers, microwave ovens, pay phones, Furbys, and other similar products.

- PIC processors, other really neat stuff. Complete product info on line. If you want to start playing with uCs, this is one of the best supported product lines for the amateur or beginner as well as the professional embedded system designer.
They have a nice set of assembly tools you can download, debuggers, data sheets, links to list servs and newsgroups supporting PIC developers, and lots of info on how you can be building your own PIC based gadgets on your kitchen table and writing code for them on the PC.
Microprocessors
- A microprocessor is a CPU on a chip which may contain other system components, but usually requires external memory or peripherals. The line between microcontroller and microprocessor grows more blurred with each passing year, and I'm too lazy to duplicate every single entry that could be arguable called either type of device - LOL.
