With the release of OS/2 Warp 4 IBM has finally given users the ability to do real-time MIDI processing. The development of the Real-Time MIDI Subsystem (RTMIDI)
has provided the ability to:
- Send MIDI bytes through the MPU port of a soundcard.
- Receive MIDI bytes through a souncard and have millisecond accurate timestamping of those bytes.
- A standard that all vendors can adhere to.
So in other words MIDI sequencing under OS/2 isn't just a possibility it's now a reality! Add to the RTMIDI subsystem the development of
the high-resolution timer that has a 1 millisecond accuracy and OS/2 now becomes a solid real-time MIDI capable operating system.
