These series of pictures were taken at Bethune (Artois region,France) and show part of the annual festivities which comemorate the City's Liberation Day by the Allies.
Thats me along with the mighty M4 Sherman tank. How can I tramsmit you the feeling of seeing this 30ton monster huffing and puffing, shaking the ground beneath one's feet as it rolls 1 meter away from me ... And the sound that radial engine makes! Deffning!!!
And thats me on a not so convincing pose, well ... I thing I wouldn't impress many Heer foes looking that stupid! Anyway, take a look at the background !!! (And the Thompson belonged to the tank driver on the previous photo, he just couldn't get away with it ).
This is the Stuart light tank, meaning - a Panther could pack three to the HereAfter with a single shot ! Its impressive the feeling of being helpless and unprotected when standing beside that tinny gun and allumin foil armour.
Here comes the M24, a more respectable foe to German tanks. And this thing can roll. On the last day of show my father was invited to go in one of these (there were three of them) while they where rolling their way to the local Police's Station (for safe keeping) and I got to go on my car following the crazy tank drivers, at 40-50 km/h through tight French village's streets!!! Hopefully the Police was warned and was blocking the crossings, you ought to see those Leviatons doing brake turns !
