Collected: Site
C, Leipers Shale
in Nashville, Tennessee, USA, from Upper Ordovician deposits.
-
Estimated Age: about 450 million years old.
-
Comments: Microscopic Stereo views presented
in order as though upper edge of fossil was "rotating away" from viewer.
Scale bar = .5 mm. Conodont imbedded in unusual complex matrix that may
be part of larger fossil, or may be a coincidental association of a condont
and Gastropod shell, or possibly a gastropod shell that was penetrated
by a conodont during life. Notice that the cusp appears to have penetrated
the top of the shell, and pushed through to the bottom of the shell, where
it was stopped short of exit. Images C37AY45s01 and 05 show textured material
next to the conodonts that resembles fossilized muscle fibers or other
soft tissue. A Species unclassified. Fig 02 is an inexpert mosaic.
Fig 03 is presented at lower resolution.
