About Aerobatics
Competition aerobatics is the worldwide sport of precision aerobatic flying.  In the USA, it is governed by the International Aerobatic Club where contest rules are established.  Contests are held nationwide throughout the summer months in beautiful (typically out of the way) places like Paso Robles California, where the Bay Area chapter hold their annual contest.

Competition format includes a series of 5 skill/difficulty levels.  Within the higher levels, the competition consists of 3 different flights:

  1. Known compulsory: established by the IAC each year
  2. Freestyle:  designed by the competitor under a strict set of guidelines for his/her difficulty level
  3. Unknown:  handed to the competitor the night before the flight (no practice is allowed)
Each flight is graded by a team of judges stationed on the ground.
