Day 4

I CROSSED THE ARCTIC CIRCLE!

On the morning of my fourth day in Alaska, I left Denali National Park , heading northeast. After a brief stop at Fairbanks for lunch and gasoline, I finally made up my mind to take on the famous Dalton Highway. The road is unpaved, no service of any kind. But once I got used to the rough driving condition, I can't help but feeling fortunate that I desided to come along. It was just unbelievably beautiful.

Five hours later, I was at the official monument of the Arctic Circle.

Eight hundred-mile-long transalaska pipeline transport oil from the arctic ocean to the seaport at south.
The Dalton highway was built for the maintainance of the pipeline.
The great Yukon river, the longest in Alaska.
Close to the Arctic Circle, the landscape changes dramaticly and the vegetation is totally different.
The "finger" has been pointing at the northern sky for millions of years.
A panorama of the Arctic Circle sign. On the other side is the endless permafrost.
"On top of the world"

I got back to Fairbanks at 10 pm with an empty gas tank, exausted but feeling great.
