My grandfather, Arthur Heller, served in the French Army, and possibly the Lafayette Escadrille, before the American involvement. He was awarded the Croix De Guerre by Marshal Foch.
But, that is all I know.
Would anyone have any suggestions where I can go on-line or otherwise to find any records of my grandfather's service, particularly with the French military before our involvement?
Thanks a lot!
Mike

I read somewhere that there is a monument to the Lafayette Escadrille outside of Paris. Do you know where this monument is?

Can someone help? I am trying to obtain access to citations for French awards during WW I (ie Legion of Honor, Medaille Militaire, etc.). I also need to find out the specific squadron of a French aerial gunner name Guilbaud. His Victory has a stork pin
that I can't yet identify.

Well ladies and gentleman, the LE message board simply got too large to edit. Besides, the LE combat simulator squadron has merged with the WW1 Musketeers. I expect that most future postings with reference to flight sims will be made on the WW1 Musketeers
Board. The Lafayette Escadrille site will remain and grow as a History Page in honor of those who served they're country in World War One.
