    1. I install a stick of bad ram in my system without knowing Locked up hard not knowing that at the time. System stated to reload system. Well I did and blew everything away and I did not have too. Everytime I reinstalled Win95b or reformated C: and installed win98 hard lockup then I removed one stick of ram at a time. Rebooted PC system up and running great 128 meg. PC-100 BAD. Here is the post From Desktop if you ever see this check Ram before you FORMAT C:/S. one stick at a time and reboot. This will save you from trowing the PC out the window. >ERROR losding Explorer.EXE. >You must reinstall windows (NO YOU DON'T) >Then blue screen >A fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028:c0008BA8. >The current application will be terminated. Hard LOCKUP. What does this have to do with FU2,3 hard to fly a lockup. I hope this might help someone and that you never see this.
    2. Make sure all Drivers are up to date. This alone will save 90%+ of a simmers thoubles!!!!!!!!
    3. Turn on Vsync to stop tearing on VooDoo II. 3dfxmania.
    4. Cacheman to optimize dish size cache in sys.ini.files if your ram is 128 meg. or less.
    5. ScanDisk then Defrag hard drive once a week.

    10. 9-14-98 I see alot of the simmers asking about RAM, Video Cards, and on and on going out and buying $$$$$$$$$$$ junk to run there sims. God only knows the PC runs the sim. A slow PC as we know the ground is HARD on landing. Ram,Ram,Ram, & Ram we are going to need it. WHY?

Win95,98 and a BX or LX chipset M/B will handle all the Ram you can put in. I started with 32meg. now 392meg. as I took the Ram up FLt II,III ran better and looked better. Hard Drive runs very little.

    11. RAM: (random-access Memory) is a electronic spreadsheet. And also FAST. RAM is also used to store data that is actively being used by whatever program (Sim) is currently running. The bigger the Spreadsheet (ram) the better. If you plan to upgrade soon stop and think what RAM do I need for the new PC AND THE MORE THE BETTER. 128 meg.is min. today. Sorry there is NO Max. All the M/B will hold is best. When you start a program that uses 3D, all the textures that are needed are loaded into RAM for handy access, then for each texture a series of MIP-maps are calculated. For example, if a texture was 128x128 pixels, the program would also calculate a 64x64 version, and a 32x32, 16x16, 8x8, 4x4, 2x2, and even a 1x1 version of the same texture. It does this so that when it needs to display that texture in the "distance", where it would appear smaller, it already has it handy so no CPU time is wasted in figuring it out. And the program (Sim) does this for every texture it's going to use. That consumes a lot of memory, and if you don't have it all in RAM, some will go back onto the hard drive swap file, and when it is read out during the flight, you will see a pause as it's loaded. (Has anyone seen this? LOL) Then I would say this sim is junk. But I needed RAM.

    12. Swap file: This virtual memory "pretend RAM" looks like regular RAM to the operating system. The part of your hard drive that acts like virtual memory is called a SWAP FILE, and is used by all of today's operating systems. When it is read out during the flight, you will see a pause as it's loaded.

    13. CPU: The CPU(microprocessor)is a very powerful calulator- but, oh, what a calculatator!!!!!!!!!! Remember RAM: (random-access Memory) is a electronic spreadsheet. The bigger the electronic spreadsheet and the faster the calulator makes a great flight.

    14. Video Cards & 3Dfx: Info by Dr. Bruce Wilson. His site is one of the best. Do you need to tweek your Aging System for sim performance? The best tips I know are at his site.
