Here is some furniture I have built. The joints are cut by hand, and the wide planks planed by hand. I do use biscuits where appropriate. Most pieces are finished with Tung oil and beeswax.
Cradle for an infant
60 by 60 inches, 36 inches wide
Cherry, Cedar, and Ebony
This was built for my nephew in Detroit. It collapses down for shipping, and rocks at a nice rate. Anngel watches from above, and a dog protects from below. He also has a fire hydrant, just in case.
Curly Maple Desk
40 inches High, 40 Inches wide, 20 inches deep
Curly Maple and other material
This desk was made as part of a deal for a collection of exotic lumber. It has over 30 secret compartments and drawers. The whole desk took 6 months to build. The new owner is quite pleased.
Walnut Console Table
27 inches High, 60 Inches wide, 10 inches deep
Black Walnut
The table used a beautiful, waney piece of walnut for the top. It was one of those pieces of wood too nice to burn, but not really good for anything else. The table has three secret drawers.
Upholstered Ash Bench
34 inches High, 34 Inches wide, 12 inches deep
Black Ash
There are two of these, and they almost match. Notice the armadillo on the stretcher.
Room Divider
62 Inches High, 96 Inches wide fully extended.
Black Ash
Wall Paper by Bradbury & Bradbury
This 4 section room divider uses double action hinges to
allow folding in any direction. There are two different
wall paper patterns, giving a formal and an informal side.
The informal side is shown.
The wall paper
on this project cost $100. If this were to fall flat, I think
it would blow out windows. It is quite heavy.
Coffee Table
16 inches High 36 inches Long, 18 inches wide
Madrone wood
This table was made from two wide planks of Madrone, which is similar to cherry. The edges are curved to match the original planks, and the pieces are held together with a Japanese buttyfly joint.
Blanket Chest
33 by 18 by 22 inches
Black Walnut, Inlayed Maple & Acrylic Paint
The chest is built from nice, wide walnut planks I found at a yard sale, of all places. The base is from the dunnage that came with the curly maple used for the desk shown above. There are 12 inlays around the base, each with a different quilting pattern carved and painted on it. The top is coopered. Empty, the chest best lifted by two people.
