The municipality of Sant Fruitós de Bages is situated in the
region called Bages.
The area is 22'14 square kilometres. The altitude is 260 metres.
The most important settlement of population is in the village itself,
but there are other settlements: Les Brucardes, La Rosaleda, Torroella
de Baix and Pineda de Bages.
The number of inhabitants is 5026 in 1997.
The forests formed by pines measure about 300 hectares; a large
part of the agriculture is based on dry forming and the chief crops of
the region are cereals (1715 ha), olivetrees (50 ha), vineyards (40
ha); the irrigated land measures about 50 ha.
The industry is very important, there are several industrial estates
located in different parts of the township. The industrial activity
consists of textile, metallurgy, food, plastic materials, wood,
construction, ...
The municipality has a good road network: the Transversal road, the
Llobregat road and the Terrassa highway are the most important ways.
The old part of the village remains as it was in the past, while
the new part has the image of an industrial village.
The place and the church of Sant Fruitós de Bages are
established with documentary evidence since 937.
The church was built in the 12th century and it has romanesque
characteristics. It was modified at the end of the 17th century.
Certainly, the most interesting place to visit is the monastery of Sant
Benet de Bages. It was founded in the 10th century, about the year 960,
it is considered to be a treasure of the Catalan romanesque
architecture, but the gotic and baroque styles are also present in the
building.
