Objectivism--Activities--Writings

Objectivism

It wouldn't be right as an Objectivist not to mention that notorious split amongst Objectivists between the Ayn Rand Institute, headed by Leonard Peikoff, and the Institute for Objectivist Studies, headed by David Kelley. If anyone actually ever paid attention to what was written here before, then you would probably care to know that I've recently had a chance to read Peikoff's essay Fact and Value. The problem is that I can't seem to find any of Kelley's writings, relevantly Truth and Toleration, on the Internet or anywhere else, so I can't have any idea how true the charges against Kelley were or exactly what Kelley said to invoke such wrath. I won't begin to say all of the things that I've thought about this whole mess until after I've read the whole body of work, but when I do, it should be interesting to say the least. I might even end up writing an essay about it.

Activities

Now that that's over, some of my interests here at Yale include:

Objectivist Study Group at Yale (OSGAY), the Party of the Right,

the Yale College Libertarians,

and the Yale Free Press.

In case it's not self-evident to those with a knowledge of Yale's majors, I plan on majoring in Ethics, Politics, and Economics, the best major we have here! As a native St. Louisan, I am very proud to finally be a Cardinals fan again. This year's team was the best they've had since the last time they made the playoffs in '87 and with LaRussa at the helm, these guys have an even better chance to be playing in the World Series next year after it was proven both by the Cards and the Yankees that the Braves can be beaten....

My Writings

Beyond Affirmative Action--written not long after Prop. 209 passed in CA

Davis Critique--A critique of a speech given at Yale by activist Angela Davis

The Future Looks Bright--Written just days after Clinton's re-election; tells why third parties may be an unstoppable force in the future

Connecticut Should Rethink Its Drinking Laws--written as a response to some recents busts of local businesses serving alcohol to minors

Misguided Nostalgia--an attack on today's youth, and their resemblance to the radicals of the 60's

stay tuned, there's more to come...
