It's called the 800 pound gorilla because NO ONE steps in front of an 800 pound gorilla
As
of 25 December, 2001, there no elected
leaders or major party candidates campaigning in Benton County voters who care
even one iota about the following:
1] Public safety and crime
issues
2] Children’s safety and
well being
3] Crime victims
4] Taxpayers
This is the bad news. While every elected official supports the so called “War on
Drugs” – which is really a war on children, crime victims and taxpayers – there
are absolutely no people whatsoever who really believe in this pure evil
policy. The 800 pound gorilla is an
organization to provide a “show of force” for good candidates who support a
sensible drug policy that serves the interests of the public; it’s success
should easily produce a “bandwagon effect” from officeholders and candidates who
presently have no choice but to go into hiding on drug policy issues. Staged debates have falsely portrayed
upsides and downsides to drug war; the reality is that there are no upsides -
which is why there won’t ever be anyone willing to defend the War on Drugs in a
real debate.
The last people to come out
of the bunker will be the news media. Long after both major parties have
formally denounced the so called “War on Drugs” and advocated sole
responsibility for the drug war to be done by the Surgeon General instead of
the Attorney General, news editors will
support this pure evil policy and remain highly critical of voters. They will
continue to refuse to even print the truth as opinion – much less acknowledge
the reality of the drug war and its harm to society. That’s why the 800 pound
gorilla is absolutely necessary – to raise money to inform the voting public
and political leaders. Money raised
will be used for the following purposes:
1] Publish the much censored
synopsis[see back] in Voters Pamphlet
2] Furnish bumper stickers
[Support your 800 pound gorilla] as a show of force to influence potential
candidates to run with the truth – instead of hiding from it as the GT does.
3] Furnish 800 pound gorilla lawn signs for elections –
both primary and general.
4] Mail out information to
members letting them know of good candidates [gorilla alerts]. Real 800 pound
gorillas will contribute to our effort and will be listed according to their contribution.
