DEMOCRATIC ALTERNATIVE
The Democratic Alternative, is a peace proposal that was presented in April 95 by the socialist basque revolutionary organization for national liberation, E.T.A. (Basque Homeland And Freedom), for the resolution
of the political struggle that face both the Basque People and the spanish State.
The proposal is based on the Self-Determination Right aproved by the U.N. in 1966 and signed by most of the states of the world. However, this Right has not been recognized by the Spanish State in the case
of the Basque Country.
The Democratic Alternative was rejected by the Spanish goverment, and, at present, all the leaderships of the Basque political party Herri Batasuna (Peopleīs Unity) have been arrested because of their attemp of publication, distribution and promotion of an E.T.A. video explaining
the "Democratic Alternative for the Basque Country", the basque armed organizationīs proposal for cease-fire and peace.
DEMOCRATIC ALTERNATIVE
For a real democracy established in Southern Basque Country, the Spainsh State must recognize our Self-Determination Right and our territoriality and, thus, it must undertake itself to respect what the
Basque People decided.
By means of the implication and participation, all the Basque citizenship will be deciding the desired model for the Basque Country, all that implying a process of debate and decisions. Therefore, the Basque society will be the unique subject in taking any decision.
For a process to be actualy democratic, a amnesty will be conceded, so that all the prisioners, refugees and deportees will be able to participate in mentioned process.
E.T.A. states it will cease the armied activity as soon as the aforementioned contents are being reached and guaranteed by means of a political agreement.
