Mikey Hill, a 21 year old white steelworker was shot and killed by Detroit Police Officer. These Killers say that Mikey was pointing a gun at them, though witnesses and evidence tell otherwise. This is a lie made up afterwards to counter the fact that they murdered him in cold blood. After Mikey was shot the first time, he tried to climb over a 7ft. wall into the alley to save his own life leaving two bloody hand prints on the wall. The only thing he had in his hands when the fatal shot was fired was his own blood. The killer cop made sure he was dead so he couldn't tell his own story.
These murderous lying thieves then proceeded to take Mikey' family, and friends into custody for questioning as though they were the criminals! They held them for up to three hours trying harass them into changing their story to coincide with the police lies while they ransacked their house, stole from a purse, and threatened to shoot their dog.
The Police believe that they can move into any poor or working class neighborhood black, latino, white, or integrated and harass, brutalize, and even murder us. To the cops Mikey was just another poor kid and they thought no one would care. Mikey was just 21, and like so many of us was trying to make a life and enjoy his youth. But the conditions in this society limited his attempts at such a life and ultimately ended his life.
As in so many cases of police brutality and murder-Malice Green, Rodney King, Ricardo Gordy, Cornelius Stanley, JJ Hudson, Daverne Riley, Gary Glenn, Jose Ituralde, and now Mikey Hill- the police thought htey could get away with it because the cops' victim could be potrayed as a danerous but isolated representative of the working class,porr minority or other oppressed community. Whether we're fighting the racist killing of Malice Green by white cops or the killing of a white man by black cops we must not allow the Detroit Police to divide the working people of Detroit along the racial lines. The cops count on us staying divided, scared, unorganized and weal. We must prove them wrong. They should be afraid to come into or neighborhoos and treat us like dogs.
When Malice Green was kill 1 1/2 years ago we organized militant, integrated demonstrations. These marches and rallies brought charges against the cops, backed off the police, kept trial in Detroit and resulted in the convictions of Budzyn and Nevers. That trial was decided in the streets more than it that in the courtroom.
From John Engler and Dennis Archers to Bill Clinton the politicians will agee they should flood the working class, poor and minorites communities with more cops. Theu have no solutions to the problem of poverty, unemployment, health care, and education. HTey see the only way to protect the rich who control this society by repressive force against us.
The cops are only accountable to the rich--not all of us. More cops means more Mikey Hills and Malice Greens. We demand the cops get out of the black and working class communities! We can and should organize our own indpendent communities of defense to patrol our streets and protect against attacks and harassment by police on the working class and racist attacks. At the hands of the cops, an attack on one of us is an attack on all of us. We must inite and fight back. We can fight back and win.\
