Who is this committee? We are a few people in Michigan with a common idea. We all have regular jobs, not in the field of politics, that keep us busy. And then there are families and such, which also keep us busy. We all have lives. None of us wants to turn the ad hoc committee into anything like a full-time occupation. Several of us do have our own web sites - and now there is this web site. The web site is able to work for the amendment on a full-time basis, even if we are not. This committee does not want to "run" the campaign to get the Human Rights Amendment passed. Actually no one organization should run the campaign, though if things work as they should, several organizations will take leading roles of one sort or another. The ad hoc committee will maintain and update this web site to provide one means for people and organizations working to pass the amendment to maintain communication with one another. Assuming there are events organized to gain support for the amendment, we will post notice of the events here. If there are organizations supporting the amendment, we will post their URLs, addresses, phone numbers, contact names, and so on. We will not "coordinate" the movement to pass this amendment, but we will try to provide a means by which it will coordinate itself. As time goes on, there could be similar ad hoc committees in every state. We hope there will be. If the movement grows large enough, we would be happy to re-evaluate our role in it. Right now, we just want to get a movement started. If the idea is good enough, it will take on a life of its own beyond our control in any case. We think it is good enough, and it will.
