The Federation website was moved to the Geocities server last December to allow Federation officers to update the website from remote locations. The Department of Education and Training was using its website in the salaries dispute and it was essential for the Federation to have the flexibility to respond quickly to breaking events. Two Federation organisers, John Dixon and Wayne Patterson, were given the task of updating the website.
During the salaries dispute, there were 74 major updates to the Federation website and traffic to exceeded 20,000 visitors per month. A Federation Forum linked to the website was established on the leading international trade union website, LabourStart. This forum proved to be the most active of all the LaborStart forums.
The new Federation website will retain the permanent address http://www.nswtf.org.au. The temporary Geocities address will be discontinued.
The new site has been developed by Social Change Online, an organisation which has developed other trade union websites including the award winning Workers Online website for the Labor Council of NSW. The new site will provide technical options allowing the Federation to improve communciations with its members and use the Internet as a tool for recruitiment.
