Not being able to
figure out whether Abdallah or Kingsbury was lying, or both, and since Abdallah
denied having any knowledge of anything, I looked up Kingsbury at the Fair in
1999.
I went straight to
security as soon as I got there to find Kingsbury and to clear things up. I was
with the man in the wheel chair again and he had his niece, two years old, with
us. When Kingsbury got to the security area, I asked him if I was going to get
searched this year. He said I wasn't.
We proceeded to the
area where all the animals were so the little girl could see all them. As we
went to the sheep barn, I noticed a security cop appeared to be following us. I
told the man in the wheel chair I suspected we were being followed. I suggested
he wait at the sheep barn while I took the little girl and went to the horse
barn to see what would happen.
When I left, the
cop was in barn in the north corner acting like nothing was going on. The
little girl and I went into the Horse barn. It looked like the cop wanted to
follow us, but he couldn't keep up.
The little girl and
I came back to the sheep shed about 45 minutes later and the cop was still
there in the corner. I put the girl with the man in the wheel chair and walked
up to the cop. I asked him what he was doing there. True to my expectations, he
started to lie. They always do.
He said he was not
doing anything except walking around and keeping things working at the fair. I
told him he had better start doing that instead of holding up the corner of the
sheep barn. He started to get uneasy. I asked him if he was following us. He
denied it even though he knew we knew better. After exchanging a few unpleasant
words, I told him to radio Kingsbury and that I would be there immediately. He
did that and continued to follow us to the security office.
Kingsbury was
waiting for us. I jumped on him for being followed. He was squirming like a
maggot in the sun. It was clear he didn't want to see us again. It was then I
told him I had talked to Abdallah and he had denied everything. It was then I
asked Kingsbury point blank, “Which one of you is lying?"
His answer was
"Enjoy the fair." I told him we couldn't enjoy the fair with his
goons following us. He kept repeating the ‘enjoy the fair’ thing. He was
clearly avoiding telling us anything. When I got done "talking" to
him, we were not followed again.
Knowing Janklow
would be at the Republican shed at some time, I thought I would take advantage
of the situation and ask him some questions I couldn't get the answers to from
things I had sent him.
With this little
girl in my arms, I walked up to Janklow and asked if he remembered this little
girl. Like the man he is, he tried to bluff by saying how much she had grown.
(I think his nose grew some too.) Then I asked him if had read the things I had
sent him form Illinois. Bingo! He knew who we were then. He realized the little
girl was the one who held him hostage in his office on Lewinsky day.
Janklow said we
should stay out of each other's way because we just caused each other trouble.
I think he was offering a truce. I told him he should solve the problem. There
was, of course, no way he was going to do that. The political price was
too high. He would be exposed as one who would uses children when it was to his
benefit, and ignore them if it hurt HIM.
As we passed the
security guard that day on our way out, I heard conversations over the police
radio about a man in a wheel chair and someone with a red haired girl.
