I would like to begin by making one definitive statement: I have NO muscial talent. I cannot sing. I don't play an instrument. The only thing I have is a diverse taste in sounds. Of course that maybe because I don't have a discriminating ear, but I enjoy what I listen to. Below are some links to internet sites of some of my favorite bands. If the link is dead please notify me. These pages are notoriously short-lived for some reason.

I have also included a Real Audio sound file of one of my favorite bands. The band will change from time to time, as will the sound file. You must have the Real Audio Plugin or Active X component to listen to this file (or a sound file conversion program, but it is easier to get Real Audio). I apologize for the semi-poor quality, but I cannot afford to have true streaming audio and I cannot afford enough web space to put up the file in a different format. The song should begin playing after a short (30 second) buffering period. The exact amount of time depends on the speed of your connection as well as how busy your sever is. Don't be surprised if you don't get all of the way through the song, especially if you are surfing in another window (not a good idea). If you have a real slow connection (14.4 modem that can't connect at 14.4), you can download the file by clicking on the picture of the album cover. Don't save the .ram file (it is a metafile with no music at all), save the .ra file. If any of this is really confusing you can mail me to ask what to do. Enjoy!

de Schmog is a local band in Houston. I had the opportunity to see them a number of times and I was impressed by their energy on stage. I have no idea if they still exist. I have not seen anything about them for a couple of years. Why are they on the page? First, they are a band I like. Plus the song's name is Hey Athena and I told a chat buddy (who's handle is Athena) that I would get the song to her. I guess I am just a sucker for devine beings *g*. Click the play button to hear de Schmog sing Hey Athena. Hit the Real Audio icon if you need a player. You need a version above 2.0!!! The file will not "stream" on version 2.x, but the file will play if you download it from the album cover.

The Links
Another Mighty Mighty HomepageI know...how can it be Another Mighty Mighty Homepage if it is the only one in my links? Well, as far as I am concerned it should be the only page for the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. The design is above average and it has sound clips in Real Audio format (OH JOY!!!). Plus the background is so nifty.
theSuspectsWithout a doubt one of the best "local bands" I have ever seen. Even if you don't like ska that much their music will make some part of your body move. They have just come out with a new album and they have some RealAudio clips of some of the songs. Definately worth tying up some bandwidth on.
The Unofficial Jane SiberryWith all of these unofficial homepages I wonder if there are any official ones. Jane Siberry is a Canadian singer/songwriter who, in my opinion, has produced some of the most beautiful songs of the modern age. WOW! What an endorsement. If you have never heard her before she kind of reminds me of Tori Amos without all of the angst (I should get killed by Tori and Jane fans for that one).
The Unofficial Clannad HomepageWow...another unofficial homepage. Anyways the beauty of the Clannad Homepage is rivaled only by their music. A graphic intensive site that is worth the wait (I particularly like the Celtic Runes underneath the image map links...look close to see them). I have loved Clannad since the first moment I heard them back in 1986 while I was watching a BBC version of Robin Hood (Robin of Sherwood...a great show to say the least...the page is okay). Some of the newer style songs are a bit too melodramatic (can a song be melodramatic?), but their more traditional arrangements are incredible. Check them out.
Enya Unofficial HomepageI won't say it *g*. The Enya site has changed webmasters due to the large amount of traffic. The new site is more hi-tech (don't expect to see the creator's vision unless you are using IE 3.0 or Netscape 4.0), but is lacking in the aesthetic (this coming from a man with crayons on his homepage *g*).
Dead Can DanceDead Can Dance defies description. At one end their music borders on the ethereal, while their flip side shows a gothic, almost sinister look at the human psyche (wow...the page does reflect this as well). All of their music is a joy to listen to (if you like classical sounding music), but some of their more intense songs should be avoided right before bed. Some advice: see them live. No studio tricks here, just pure beauty.
Throwing Music OnlineThe Throwing Muses. What a name. In the old days that name meant Tonya Donnelly and Kristin Hirsch, but now it just means the latter. Oh well...life goes on. I still like them even though I listen to the old stuff and Belly more. A hint: don't bother trying to understand the lyrics...it is more fun if you don't.
Vinh Le's Belly PagesWell...there used to be a really cool Belly site, but this one will have to do.
That is all...for now.
