CONTEMPORARY GOSPEL!
I LOVE Fred Hammond and Radical for Christ! This Detroit-based (West Side baby!), chart-topping, I'm-not-ashamed-of-the-gospel group takes urban praise and worship to a whole `nother level, y'all. I go to all their concerts in the Detroit area (and once in Tallahassee)... I own everything they've ever done... I even bought a couple of CDs just because Fred and RFC dropped in for a guest appearance!
MOST RECENT RELEASE: The Pages of Life, Volumes I & II
***Recommended: The whole she-bang is EXCELLENT and ANOINTED!!!
1998 was truly the year of Kirk Franklin! He began it with a "Stomp" and ended it asking us "Do you want a revolution"?" I only have one thing to say about that... WHOO WHOO! I have no problem with them playing Kirk's music on BET, MTV, and nightclubs... and neither should anyone who has ever read the gospels. Keep on spreading the gospel by any means necessary, my brother. Some of us understand the vision, and are praying for you.
MOST RECENT RELEASE: The Nu Nation Project
***Recommended: The whole she-bang is EXCELLENT and ANOINTED!!!
Take 6 definitely knows where gospel and jazz meet. There is only one word to describe these brothers' sound: SMOOTH. You'd be hard pressed to find better spiritual ear candy. I've been listening and loving their music since I first was saved in 1994, but this group has been going strong more than ten years. Take it from me, you're in for a blessed treat!
MOST RECENT RELEASE: So Cool
***Recommended: I haven't heard it yet. It's on my "to buy" list. Will hit you back once I do!
The ladies and gents of Detroit's own (West Side baby!) Winans family are truly the Jacksons of Gospel Music... without all the problems of Michael and Company, of course. First, there were the Winans. (Who could ever forget the classic 80s contemporary gospel hits "The Question Is", "Restoration", "Finders Keepers", "What Can I Say?", "Tomorrow" and more?) Then came the Grammy and Dove award collecting BeBe and CeCe, first together, then each solo. The lovely diva Vickie "The Lady" Winans came into the family by marriage. Meanwhile, Marvin Winans founded and became pastor of the anointed Perfecting Church in Detroit, and Angie and Debbie did their own thing. If all that were't enough, now a second generation of Winans is recording both gospel and secular music. WHEW!
MOST NOTABLE RECENT RELEASES:
Everlasting Love, CeCe Winans
***Recommended: "Everlasting Love"
Live in Detroit, Vickie Winans
***Recommended: "My Soul Has Escaped"
BeBe Winans, BeBe Winans
***Recommended: "In Harm's Way"
Ever meet someone that you instantly liked? Well, I've never met Yolanda Adams in person, but I have seen her interviewed. She seems so friendly that you can just see Jesus in her. I discovered her when I first was saved, and instantly liked her sound. She is truly the contemporary gospel answer to Whitney Houston.
MOST RECENT RELEASE: Songs From The Heart
