PROFESSIONAL COUNSELING SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

As a therapist having my own private practice, I am currently an MA candidate working on finishing my degrees in counseling and psychology. I also want to obtain the PPSP School Psychology credential. Using a systematic eclecticism of behavioral modification and intervention techniques, I get excellent results. My desire is to continue working full time in the counseling field helping SED students and organize treatment systems to help students..

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

*COMPASSION COUNSELING---1987 to present

Private Practice Counselor. What started as a part time counseling service is now a successful practice. The clients are mostly referred to me from colleagues, and psychologists. I am in current need of an opportunity to continue to intern as a school counselor. with a full range of students with SED and who are disadvantaged. This practice would not interfere with the current program applied for.

*ADVOCATE SCHOOLS---1995 to 1996

Senior Counselor with adolescence. This was a private high school where I was directly responsible for all students inside the classroom. This was a multi cultural and ethnic diverse school. I worked on keeping the students in school and working through any problems that might keep them from being on task. I also helped to teach students within the classroom. I have had much success implementing several behavior modification programs that created results for the students. I used positive reinforcement exclusively to gain the best performance from each student. I also published the campus newsletter, and proposed, purchased, set up program and teach computers to all students. Provide support and instruction to students and faculty and their teaching

assistants on how to improve school education through the use of new media technologies, such as creating multimedia lecture presentations, publishing materials on cd-rom, and improving distance learning.

*NEW ALTERNATIVES INC.---1994 to 1995

Social Worker Child Counselor. My responsibilities included implementing positive behavioral modification programs to help achieve target goals for children with SED. I worked with a collective treatment team of social workers, nurses, and psychiatrists to help achieve the best results for each individual child. I directly supervised abused, neglected or abandoned children. I am committed to helping the disadvantaged, disenfranchised, and the underprivileged members of our society.

*FOUNDATION FOR EDUCATION ACHIEVEMENT---1993 to 1994

Support Specialist. Working with a diverse population of clients with developmental disabilities of emotional and physical limitations. I directly supervised and implemented lifestyle changes to help develop better living skills by teaching and acclimating them to society. Thus allowing this group to be productive working citizens of the community.

*VISTA HILL COMMUNITY TREATMENT SYSTEMS---1993

Residential Treatment Counselor. Coordinating all group activities of Veterans, acclimating them into socialization from chemical dependency and addictive borderline personalities. I am very knowledgeable and skilled in utilizing an eclectic clinical style of: Psychoanalytic, Adlerian, Existential, Person-centered, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Behavioral, Rational-emotive, Cognitive-behavioral and Reality therapies.

Taught multiple sessions of peer counseling to local high school students.

Developed hospital visitation program recruiting and training volunteer lay people

from area churches that expanded outreach support by 25%.

Delivered over many community presentation on the topic of "Youth In Crises."

Lectured on subjects, "Grief" and "Bioethics" to groups of new hospice volunteers

in programs conducted several times each year.

Ordained Minister. Pastor Associate. Pastor of Youth. Pastor of Counseling.

Developed a comprehensive, wide range youth ministry comprised of four distinct, progressive, individually designed programs tailored to the specific needs of youth ranging from ages 12 - 25.

Trained student leaders to do crisis intervention counseling. Encourage and support people by providing pre-marital counseling, marital counseling, family crisis intervention, grief recovery, and hospital visitation. Prime objectives were spiritual, and social growth and healing, reinforced in an atmosphere of compassion and caring. Provide an effective, far reaching, total impact counseling program through integration of teaching, and counseling skills.

*CAMPUS LIFE---1976-1980 and 1989-1991

Student leader. Associate staff. Director in City Beach. Advisory Board Chairman. Sharing with ethnically diverse students on five public school campuses with emphasis on small group interaction. The five high school campuses that comprised the City Beach area were among the best with several student leaders trained to come on staff. Coordinated a leadership training program for associate staff members. Developed a quality program throughout the school year and summer months. Focus was on continued growth with expansion to more campuses, small group interaction, crisis counseling, staff training, and a whole lot of fun.

*USC MEDICAL CENTER- 1986-1987

Hospital Chaplain. Director of the Department of Pastoral Care. Provided liaison between the

hospital and the local clergy handling any procedural problems that occurred during pastoral visits to the hospital units. Large Los Angeles County hospital, working with ill and terminal patients. A unique place which showed people at the height and depth of their human condition. A stressful environment which allowed compassion to help people from many different types of religious and ethnic backgrounds.

*OCCIDENTAL UNITED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH - 1985-1986

Youth Pastor. A small, well established church in Eagle Rock. Ministered and offered counseling to all ages of students to encourage spiritual and social development. Coordinated all ski, beach and river activities. Preaching, counseling and coordinating church programs were also prime responsibilities.

*ZAMAR UNLIMITED - 1985-present

Founding member of the Board of Directors. A California nonprofit outreach corporation. Planned, directed and implemented programs in monthly publications, music concerts, community food bank and created high impact public events.

JUVENILE HALL SAN DIEGO - 1983-1984

Counselor to maximum security inmates. Brought a message of hope out of a mess of despair.
