Over the summer, I was an intern with a company called OhioComp Network. A member of the Chandler Group of Companies, OCN is a network of physicians in the state of Ohio that is used to treat Workers' Comp patients. We dealt primarily with the individual doctor offices in the state, although we did have to conform to the Bureau of Workers' Comp guidelines. Last year they set down some pretty specific guidelines as to the steps an injured worker has to go through in order to be treated. Some aof those guidelines deal with the reimbursement of doctors, which we specifically deal with.
My job was mostly clerical in nature. I did alot of important tasks, although at the time they seemed pretty boring. For about the first 3 weeks, all I did was enter new applications into the system. When I arrived, there was a two month backlog of applications that had yet to be looked at by the Credentialler. Unfortunately Lisa, the Crenetialler, went on vacation for a week during this time period, so not a lot of work was accomplished. By the time she got back, we were now three months behind.
While she was gone, I did get all of the data entry caught up, and was then working on sorting the applications. I would go through each application that we received, and place all the material in it in a specific order. Then I had to fill out these 2 sheets that specifically dealt with what was in each person's file. Halfway through her vacation, we ran out of the sheets, and switched to a computerized version of them.
After that was all done, I then began to send out letters. As Lisa would go through each application, she would make sure all the necessary materials were there. If the doctor had failed to send something to us, we then had to send out letters requesting the items.
