I recently took this at this year's VT vs. UVA game, which is always the biggest game of the season
because Tech and UVA are such big rivals. This year it was at UVA (yes, I was visiting Kim), and we beat the hell out of them. There was a record crowd there this year. A lot of Hokies showed up because we wanted revenge for last year when they beat us on our own turf.
I took this at the Tech vs. Clemson game, which was a home game.
This is a neat picture I took from a 727 out of Spokane, WA, where we visited a
few summers ago. It's looking down on Coeur D'Alene lake in Idaho, which is a huge, gorgeous lake and a big tourist attraction. The golf course there has a world-famous floating golf green (circled in red). I like this picture because I've actually been on the lake, and the aerial view offers a totally different perspective.
I scanned these pictures in from a Washington Post Metro article about the soaring club I take flying lessons with. That guy, Jim Kellett, is one of my two instructors. Click here to read the
article (if it's still there).
I took flying lessons in this glider over the summer, and I hope to continue lessons and eventually get my pilot's license. The glider is an ASK-21, nicknamed "The K." It's a very popular choice for students and instructors because it's easy to control and almost impossible to crash. The Skyline Soaring Club WAS based in New Market, Virginia, about half an hour north of Harrisonburg on I-81. They have recently relocated to nearby Front Royal, a few miles north of New Market.
This wreck happened over spring break '99. Two weeks after he got his license, my brother Greg was driving my mom's '98 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera on a windy road when he skidded on gravel, swerved off the road and wrapped the car around a tree. The ironic thing is, he was doing the speed limit; it could've happened to anyone. The tree, although stripped of its bark, was fine. Fortunately, Greg was fine; his friend injured his hand when it hit the dashboard, but it healed quickly. That's my car (an '87 Cutlass) behind the wreck in the background.
Mom drives an Alero now.
