Jake Reese Illustrator

Hi my name is Jake Reese. I live in Redmond Washington, and work as a Freelance Illustrator and also as a Graphic Designer at a local Print shop.

I have been drawing as long as I can remember, I still remember drawing a book in kindergarten about my life and what I wanted to be. I love drawing, doodling, sketching, painting, pretty much anything art related. Most of my drawing skills I know I taught myself. I started off by looking at pictures and comics and tried to copy them. Then I eventually started drawing things out of my head. I did read a few books on drawing but didn't find them to be much help, as I learn best from either trying something myself or watching others.

I took a few art classes in Middle School and High School, wich also helped. I have to thank my art teachers and my peers as they were my insperation to keep doing art and getting better at it. But I think I learned the most about art and techniques of art in College. When I graduated High School, I was a box boy at the only store in town, and I knew I had to get out and do something with my life. So with the talent I had and the encouraging of my family, friends and peers, I decided to try to make a living at it. I decided to go to the Art Institute of Seattle. I learned a lot there. I learned new techniques and did a lot of figure drawing wich was something I had never done before, but is something I belive helped me the most. The best advice I can give to a budding artist is to do lots and lots of figure drawing. Once you can draw the figure and draw it well, everything else will seem like a peice of cake. I still do figure drawing and I probably always will!
