Latino America Unida, Lambda Alpha Upsilon Fraternity, Inc. Gamma
Chapter was established at Saint John's University, Jamaica, N.Y., in
1994, as the first intercollegiate Latino Greek-letter fraternity for
Latino-American college students. Due to the prejudices of the time, three
visionary founders at Saint John's - Gabriel A. Pagano, Ryzard H.
Villa, and Julio C. Silva Jr. organized the third unit of this national
fraternity called "Gamma Chapter."
Despite severe prejudices and racial conflict on the Queens Campus, the
early Triunfadores succeeded in laying
a firm foundation and remained steadfast in their goals, which were the
uniting of the Latino community, providing a strong and solid base for
Latino culture, supporting each other personally and academically, and
enriching our environment with Latino pride and spirit. The fraternity has
grown steadily in it's influence throughout the years with a membership
over 500 since it's founding on December 10, 1985. There are now over 7
college chapters, colonies and interest groups in local communities. These
chapters are located in 4 major cities in New York State: the City of
Buffalo, Rochester, New York City and Oswego. Through both the
individual
and
collective effort of "Lambdamen" nationwide, we have contributed to the
financial and organizational successes of such organizations as the March
of Dimes Walkathon, NYC Aids Walkathon and the Latino Civil Rights March
in Washington, DC referred to as "La Marcha" and many other well rooted
causes. For additional information, you may contact the General Office of
