WHAT A PARTY! WHAT A BLAST!!Ya Ali Madad to you all, I have had lots of fun in the last few years but nothing compares to the last weekend. I can not describe in words what I have been through. The emotions were running high, all the singing (songs from t e scouts, jeshi, schooldays, etc.) - songs that brought back big memories, the joking, the dancing, Father Peera (we were all blessed - I hope for the better!), Zul's powerpoint presentation, Zauhar sharing his big time experiences. We all shared many old memories. Trying to sleep at night has become difficult as thousands of old and new memories race through the mind - but it is a great feeling. Thanks to the teachers, including your families for coming. I feel sorry for those who did not or could not att nd. They can never appreciate what they missed. Once again, thanks from Navin, Rahim and myself to everyone who participated, specially those that came from outside Calgary. A special thanks to all your families who supported you. God bless you all.

Dear Colleauges and teachers, it is with great pleasure that I advice you that, with Allah's grace we are all set to have a blast from the evening of Aug 7 (friday) to the late evening of Aug 9 (sunday). We are all excited and looking forward to seeing you once again and renewing lost friendships. Just some other items - most of info for the event is on the website, detailed programmes will be handed out the evening of Aug 7, please try to get in touch with as many people as possible to try to convince them to make it if they still can, but for the Venues we need to find out how many by no later then Tuesday next week, the committee has done it's best in trying to compile a list of teachers and ndugus from whatever fading memories we have and we tried to con act as many as we could and had the coordinators in each city/province do their best. However it is likely that we missed someone and for that on behalf of the committee I apologize and seek forgiveness for our shortcoming. As there has been agreat demand for others to join in, we have opened up the picnic on Sunday to the Classes of 1967, Classes of 1968 and Classes of 1969 - Boys or Girls, please get in touch with the Organizing committee if you would like to join us - we warmly welcome you, my number is 403-281-9361 if you want to contact me. As we have organized tours for the new Ismaili Jamatkhana and Centre, please be outside in the JK foyer at 8.30 pm sharp, Thanks, Ahsante tutaonana, Karibuni, Shiraz

Ya Ali Madad. I just finished talking with Zerabai Daya who remembers having taught many of the students of the class of 1968, while they were in Primary School. She is going to talk with Zul Shariff, before this Friday to confirm her plans. I need Zul Kanani's address whom I can send some photos for his presentation. I have not been able to contact Tajdin Alibhai Punch (LA, Calif.) or Firoz Esmail (Toronto), or Nizar Rajabali (Vancouver) all of whom taught at AK Boys' School while I was there. I am not sure if they ever taught the class of 1968. Aziz Bhimji, one of your religion teachers, who is now in Edmonton, and remembers having taught you folks, will not be able to make it to the reunion due to health reasons. I was talking with Mukhi Azim Velji of HQ JK in Edmonton. He said he is planning to come to the reunion. He also told me that he would be willing to contribute to a fund for Salus Fernandes' daughter!! (Refer to his message in the guest book) Is any on working on that? Please keep in touch. Dear Mohamed Mahmood Mawji referred me to you and the class of '68/'69 and gave me a copy of the E-mail which was sent to him. Also I received another E-mail from Salim Khimji through the International School of Tanganyika (IST). Which is why I am sending this E-mail to you. I've been trying to place you and Salim in my mind, but I just cannot put a face to the name Yes, I'm still around, having retired from teaching thrice: first from Tambaza Secondary School (formerly the Agakhan Boys' Secondary school, your school) in 1980, then from IST in 1995, and lastly from Shaaban Robert Secondary School in 1996. I was so disillusioned in the last school that I have resigned myself to tutoring at home. So you can send your children to me. Your 'reunion' idea is great and indicates a remarkable aesthetic sense in those who have come up with the idea. Were it not for my present unfavourable financial status, I would have joined you all like a shot. What a warm and wonderful feeling it would have given me to be among you all and to see, with my own eyes, how much and how well you have progressed in life. Some of you perhaps would not only be well-off, but would be occupying respectable positions in your country and in your community. I might even develop an inferiority complex in your midst. Although I may not be present at the 'reunion' in person, I most definitely will be there in spirit, and I want to encourage you all to go on with the preparations and to make the occasion a memorable one. Of course, you must send me an account of the proceedings and, most important of all, photographs. Among the names of ex-students on your list, I recognise and remember some, but to tell you the truth, when you consider that some 30,000 students have passed through my hands during the 45+ years that I have been in the teaching profession, it is not easy to put a face to a name and vice-versa. But if you send me a group photograph I'm sure I'll recognise quite a number. The person I've kept in touch with is Sadru Govani who was in Dar a few months back. We had many pleasant hours together chatting about old times. The famous author, Moyez Vassanji, has also visited me at home and at IST where he was the chief guest at an English Department workshop. I'm also in touch with Issa Jetha resident in Dallas but now has moved to Seattle. Do you know him? Right now, I am in the process of trying to raise enough funds to send my daughter for one year to a U.S. university to pursue a 4-year degree course in Psychology. Since I don't have the resources, I am actually going round to my ex-students for assistance, and the response has been positive. But I am doubtful if I will be able to pay the first year's fees before the 27 July deadline. In which case, my daughter will not go, although her visa is ready and her deposit has been paid to the College. If you guys can come up with something, I'd be extremely grateful. Well, I think I'll sign off now wishing you good luck in your venture. With all good wishes from Mwalimu Salus Fernandes

D-day is approaching fast and we need some help! Not every one has confirmed and we need to get arrival/accomodation info. Regretably, a very small number of our ndugus have decieded not to come. Whatever the reason, we would like to beg you to reconsider your decision. You may have other plans like families visiting: your guests are welcome to come and have fun with us. One eason we were given was we have never kept in touch so why now? Well if we have failed in our duty to contact people for such a long time we beg forgiveness, but let us start now to foster friendship and brotherhood. One guarantee to you is we have done nothing and will not allow any show-off or one upmanship here. Let our circumstances back in Dar then, and where we are now come in the way of fostering this bond. Just an example: somebody cancelled a cruise of the Mediterrenean with his family to be with old (not age) friends in Calgary. Anybody who can locate these ndugus and anyone else please talk to them. Although I am not of '68 class of AKSS, I am delighted/impressed to find out that noble efforts are being made to congeal, faded memories and all. My hats off to all of you on the organizing committee. Some years ago, before the advent of the internet and email in its embryonic stage, I tried to establish a directory of the 1st A-Levels class('70) of Mzizima(?) Sec School and maybe a reunion down the road - Single handedly it was just not possible while dealing with all of life's trials and tribulations at the same time. I hope those of you in the AKSS '68 O-Level Class and also of MSS '70 A-Level Class will make an effort to make it a joint function and/or work on the directory and/or reunion for the '70 MSS A-Level Class. Some of the common members of both classes, I kn w off-hand, are: Mohamed Jiwa, Rustam Kassam, Nawroz Rawji. PLEASE COUNT ME IN AS A VOLUNTEER FOR ANY AND ALL OF SUCH EFFORTS. This is an excellent idea. Mehdi Fazal and Babul also come to mind. Gordon M and Desmond Blakley too. How can one forget Fando and Mk Khan. Mr kabir and of course Mr Ndalilio who nearly killed me when I made Shiraz Nazrali laugh. -Mama linda kuku zako huj nunda.......

It was real nice to be informed about this occassion. I am looking forward for this reunion and am hoping to see everyone. As for the comments made by Shabir Premji(Moshi 1968), I have been thinking for quite some time about a millenium reunion when mo t of us will be turning 50. How about a grand one in the year 2001? Ya Ali Madat.

Ndugus,Although I am an Agakhan School Alumni, my school was in Moshi and not the big city. Perhaps a Tanzania AK School re-union with sub-grouping of certain activities when the crowd hits calgary should be considered. After all a lot of us got together hen we did A-levels at Mzizima or Old-Moshi etc.I for one would volunteer to get the Moshi crowd going. By the way, your invite seems to be addressed to men-only? Hope not - would not be fun without the old 'Flames' Please E-mail me if you would like to t ke this idea further - otherwise - Best of Luck !!!

A fantastic idea of getting classmates together. It will be a wonderful time, I am sure. Bashir and I have not met a lot of you for the longest time. It is nice to get together and then keep in touch. Bashir is also thrilled and is looking forward to coming. We shall see you

YAM - I saw your message in response to my request on the AK school system project I am working on. I graduted from the AK primary school in Nairobi in 1968 after finishing the Std 7 Kenyan CPE exams. I think we have mutual objectives in mind regarding reserving the memories of the AK school system. I am leaving the same message on your web page so as to make your readers aware of this project. YA Ali Madad and Navroz Mubarak to all Ismailis world wide and to all former students and teachers of the Aga Khan schools in East Africa and the Indian sub continent. I am in the process of putting together a "memory book" on the Aga Khan School system nursery, primary and secondary - that I am sure many readers of this web page have graduated from. The AK School system is over 50 years old now. If you are a former student, I would like to hear from you on such things as the school you attended, the year you graduated, the fond memories you have on your time in the school, any personal accomplishments, and any other things you remember of those schools such as teachers, favourite classes, subjects and so on. If you are a former teacher, I would also like to hear from you along the same lines. The book also includes pictures, so I am especially interested in any photos you may have of your class, the schools or any other items of memorabilia you may have such as year books related to the schools. The book also includes a section on "where are they now/what are they doing" that will be organised by country, school and graduating year and current address - mailing and e-mail - so if you want to be included in this section drop me an e-mail about yourself or any friends you may know of. The thrust of this section will be to highlight what the students from this system continued to do after graduation and also enable people who have lost contact with each other get acquainted again. Thank you for your co-operation and navroz mubarak again. My mailing address is Zahir Dharsee, 4079 Chelmsford Court, Mississauga, Ontario, L5B-2X2.
