"Accelerated staff development via work place learning, experiences from Indonesia and Norway"by Son Huu Do, Head of Faculty Subsurface & Wells Shell EP Learning AbstractAt the foundation of Shell EP learning strategy is an effective work place learning program. This presentation will covers an overview of the work place learning concept and discuss two case studies (Indonesia and Norway) where staff development were accelerated using effective workplace learning approaches while still delivering on aggressive business targets. In the Indonesia case, initiative to start waterflooding in a matured offshore PSC was stalled because of lack of experienced staffs were overcome by changing the role of expatriates from project deliverer to technology transferer. In the case of the Draugen field in Norway, difficulty in recruiting experienced subsurface staffs caused a radical change in the staffing strategy in order to deliver on an aggressive growth strategy to take the field recovery factor pass +60%. Instead of continue to try to find experience staffs in a very competitive Norwegian job market, key positions in the Draugen subsurface team were filled with graduates. The roles of the expatriate experienced subsurface staffs at Draugen were changed to more focus on coaching/mentoring.
